Monson Savings Bank recently announced the appointment of David J. Viamari as vice president and controller. In this role, Viamari will be responsible for overseeing the bank’s accounting and financial reporting functions, playing a critical part in maintaining the institution’s financial health and regulatory compliance.
He brings with him over 15 years of experience in the finance and accounting field — including four years in banking and 11 years in public accounting.
Before joining Monson Savings Bank, Viamari served as assistant vice president, assistant controller at bankESB, a subsidiary of Hometown Financial Group, MHC. There, he managed the bank’s financial statements and regulatory reporting requirements, assisted in the monthly financial close process, and oversaw the general accounting and accounts payable departments. He also supported executive leadership and the board of directors by delivering accurate and timely financial reporting.
Viamari holds both a bachelor’s degree in business administration in accounting and a master’s degree in accounting from the University of Massachusetts Amherst’s Isenberg School of Management. He is a committed community member, currently serving as treasurer on the board of directors for the Lathrop Home of Northampton. He is also a member of the Financial Managers Society (Boston Chapter).
Viamari resides in West Springfield and is excited to bring his financial expertise to a community-focused financial institution.

Monson Savings Bank is proud to announce the promotion of Catherine E. Rioux to the position of assistant vice president commercial loan officer. In her new role, Rioux will continue to serve the community by educating and assisting current and prospective borrowers with a variety of financing options, including commercial and industrial loans, and commercial real estate lending.
Rioux, a resident of Monson, brings nearly two decades of banking experience to her role, including 12 years in lending. She began her career at Monson Savings Bank in 2006, initially viewing it as a part-time opportunity. However, her passion for banking quickly grew, and she gained experience across nearly every department in the bank.
Rioux holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Western New England University, with a major in management and a minor in communications. She is also a graduate of the New England School of Financial Studies and the Springfield Regional Chamber Leadership Institute. Her professional accomplishments include recently being named one of BusinessWest’s 40 Under 40.
In addition to her professional achievements, Rioux is deeply involved in her community. She lives in Monson with her family and serves on the town of Monson Scholarship Committee, volunteers at St. Patrick’s Church, supports Girls on the Run Western Massachusetts, and is a member of the Monson Free Library finance committee.

The Hampden County Bar Association held its annual meeting, vendor show and member reception on June 11, at the Springfield Sheraton. Attorney Christopher D. Pierson from Bacon Wilson PC was sworn in as president of the Hamden County Bar Association for the 2025-2026 year by Springfield District Court First Justice Kevin V. Maltby. Attorney Kathleen A. O’Malley, of Raipher PC, was presented with the first Thomas A. Kenefick III Memorial Award for Leadership and Professionalism by Attorney Michael O. Jennings. Fifty-year members of the bar were also recognized during the evening, including U.S. District Court Judge Michael A. Ponsor and U.S. Bankruptcy Court Henry Boroff. Others included were: attorney Peter Barry; Judge Philip Contant; attorney Mary Costello; attorney Thomas Costello; attorney Gerald Glasser; Judge Robert Howarth; attorney L. Lynne McLandsborough has been named director of the University of Massachusetts Amherst’s Center for Agriculture, Food and the Environment and also will serve as assistant vice chancellor for research and engagement. She brings to her new roles 30 years of experience at UMass Amherst, where she bridged the academic and applied sciences and gained deep expertise in working with the commonwealth’s UMass Extension program, which reaches into every corner of agricultural life in Massachusetts.
A member of the UMass Amherst faculty since 1995, McLandsborough is a food microbiologist who has made significant contributions to the field. Her research has focused on food safety, including biofilm formation of pathogenic and spoilage organisms in the food processing environment and how to remove them. One of her major accomplishments is the development of antimicrobial delivery systems, and she is currently working to develop non-water-based cleaning and sanitation systems for use in the food industry.
