Barnstable County Recognized for Excellence in Financial Reporting

Barnstable, MA (October 22, 2024) – Barnstable County has received the prestigious Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its Annual Comprehensive Financial Report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2023. This award is the highest form of recognition in the field of governmental accounting and financial reporting, reflecting a significant achievement for Barnstable County and its management.

The Annual Comprehensive Financial Report was reviewed by an impartial panel and found to meet the GFOA’s high standards, including a commitment to transparency and a “spirit of full disclosure,” which helps to effectively communicate the County’s financial story to its stakeholders.

Carol Coppola, Barnstable County’s Director of Finance, shared her enthusiasm for the recognition, stating, “This award is a testament to the hard work and expertise of our finance team. Their dedication to maintaining clear and accurate financial reporting helps ensure that Barnstable County continues to operate with efficiency and integrity. We are honored by the GFOA’s recognition and motivated to keep delivering the best for our community.”

Ron Bergstrom, Chairman of the Barnstable County Board of Regional Commissioners, added, “Congratulations to Carol Coppola and her team for earning the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. This recognition comes on the heels of another milestone earlier this year, with the launch of the Open Finance online platform in February 2024. This tool, accessible at capecod.gov/Open-Finance, provides the public with easy access to Barnstable County’s financial data.
